Question: How do I Apply?

Question: What qualifications do I need to have in order to apply?

 

Answer: The applicant should have a graduate or undergraduate degree in business with  appropriate semester credit hours as mentioned in the PhD Student  Manual, official GMAT or GRE scores, and a minimum TOEFL score of 600.        

    

Question: How do I start my application?

 

Answer: The applicant needs to fill out the PhD application form along with one page "Statement of Purpose", official copies of all college and university transcripts, a current resume, three letters of recommendation from persons who are able to evaluate the applicant's intellectual capacity, along with official GMAT (or GRE) and TOEFL scores. Question: What is the application deadline?

 

Answer: The deadline for the next round of admissions is March 31, 2005. However, applications are accepted any time prior to that deadline, and early submissions are encouraged. 

 

Question: When does the fall semester begin?

 

Answer: See the University calendar for start of the academic year. 

 

Question: How long after the deadline will I receive notification regarding my application?

 

Answer: Normally applicants are notified of the admission results by May 1st, unless otherwise notified.        

 

Question: What range of GMAT scores is expected for admission into the Ph.D. Program?

 

Answer: Please see the "How to Apply" link on our web site, http://www.tamiu.edu/ssb/phd/howtoapply.pdf, and note that GMAT score is one of the six items to be submitted.

 

Question: What should I include in my one page "Statement of Purpose"?

Answer: Your personal statement is a reflection of your capabilities and potential. In a single page, you have the opportunity to convince the admission review panel that you should be offered the opportunity to be admitted to the doctoral program because of your past academic and life achievements, your thirst for knowledge and the zeal to seek new frontiers of research, and your dedication to an academic, or another intellectually rigorous, career.

       It should also indicate the functional area you prefer to concentrate on. This PhD program is "bi-pillar", one of the two pillars is International Business; the other is one of the following functional areas: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management & Strategy, Marketing, and Management Information Systems. It is desirable, but not absolutely necessary, to indicate your preference in the personal statement letter.

Question: What key points should my letters of recommendation contain?

Answer: When you request your professors or others familiar with you to send us letters of recommendation, ask them specifically to address your credentials and your potential for success after receiving your doctorate. Letters should also address your intellectual capacity for advanced study, independent research, and analytical thinking, as well as your potential for delivery of effective instruction at the university level.
