Program Dates

TAMIU’s College of Education will offer a study abroad program in Belize.  The participating students will get credit for Bilingual Speech Language Pathology. The program will be directed by Ms. Melissa Garcia. There will be complete immersion through research, screenings and cultural excursions. The estimated program cost is of $4,000. This includes airfare, some meals, insurance, and program fees. The program cost excludes TAMIU tuition and fees. (Program Flyer)


Students will stay in hotels.

Timetable for Applications and Payment

October 1

Application and $200 non-refundable application fee due

November 21 Mandatory Orientaton: Culture Shock, Health & Safety
November 5 Program payment due

Application Process

  • Turn in your TAMIU study abroad application and fee by October 1st
  • Apply for any of the TAMIU study abroad scholarships by October 15th
  • OSA will provide your program budget to the Office of Financial Aid
  • Complete and turn in your Waiver and Liability Packet by December 1, 2014

Study Abroad Scholarships

TAMIU offers two scholarships for study abroad. Qualified TAMIU students may complete their application and submit them to OSA. You will be notified via email of your award and the award disbursement date.

Program Requirements

Students must have been approved by Ms. Melissa Garcia and the College of Education for acceptance into the program.


Withdrawal from a study abroad program must be made in writing to OSA. The application fee of $200 is non-refundable, unless TAMIU cancels the program. Refunds will be based on the dates stated on your Study Abroad Program Payment Form. TAMIU is not responsible for indirect costs paid directly by students, including but not limited to passport fees, vaccinations, and transportation costs.

*TAMIU reserves the right to make changes to this itinerary as deemed appropriate by the program director due to unforeseen circumstances. However, every effort will be made to adhere to the itinerary as closely as possible.

**TAMIU reserves the right to adjust program fees or cancel any program without prior notification; however, every effort will be made to provide information on cancellations in a timely manner. In the event of cancellation, TAMIU will refund application fees and recoverable program fees.
