Who is Eligible for International Student Insurance Plan Waiver?
Automatic enrollment in the A&M International Student Insurance Plan may be waived for international students only in the following instances:
The student is sponsored by the United States Government, a foreign government recognized by the United States of America, or certain international, government sponsored or non-governmental organizations. Waivers will be based on the government or organization guaranteeing payment of all health care expenses including medical evacuation and repatriation.
The student is enrolled in a non-TAMIU employer-provided group health insurance coverage which includes medical evacuation and repatriation coverage. Example:
Student is a dependent in parents'/spouse's insurance coverage,
Student with H-1 or similar work authorization enrolled in an employer-provided health insurance coverage.
Individually-purchased plans from vendors other than the Texas A&M University System provider (AIP) will not be eligible for a waiver of automatic enrollment in the A&M International Student Insurance Plan.
How to Request an A&M International Student Insurance Plan waiver
Students who have On-Campus Employment (e.g. Graduate Assistantships)
Students who are employed on-campus, and whose employment makes them eligible for University health insurance coverage, will need to provide proof to the Office of Student Affairs in order to be waived from enrollment in the A&M International Student Insurance Plan.
If you are charged for the A&M International Student Insurance Plan , please email your proof of benefits to Office of Student Affairs 5 business days before the start of classes.
All Other Students that may be Eligible for an A&M International Student Insurance Plan Waiver
Employer-provided group medical plans
If a student has employer-provided group coverage insurance policy (his or her own or as a dependent on his or her parent's policy) he or she may qualify for a waiver of enrollment in the A&M International Student Insurance Plan. The policy must meet all the requirements outlined in Health Insurance Requirement for Students page to be eligible for waiver consideration.
Students who have an employer-provided group coverage medical plan that meets University system requirements will need to email a copy of the benefits statement, including medical evacuation and repatriation, to Office of Student Affairs no later than 5 business days before the start of classes in order to be considered for a waiver of automatic enrollment.
All international students who do not request the above insurance waiver 5 business days before the start of classes will be enrolled in the Texas A&M International Student Insurance Plan .
