Photography and Italian Cinema


Program Dates

Summer Session II 2015


The College of Arts and Sciences will offer a five-week study abroad program in Rome and Florence, Italy led by Ms. Moran, Associate Professor.  Course work will allow students to learn about the Italian culture while making visual images and learning about the country's cinema and art. Cultural events include a sightseeing tours, museum visits and excurions to historical sites.

While in Italy, students will incorporate the people and culture of Italy in the images they make. Students will learn about the culture and places that inspired film directors such as Rossellini, De Sica, Fellini and Bertolucci. Included in the estimated program cost are all scheduled program activities, housing (student apartments) and some meals. (Program Flyer)

ISA Orientation, Welcome Dinner, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps, Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Basilica

Week 2

Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, Cinicitta

Week 3

Walking tour, Uffizi Gallery, day to trip to San Gimignano

Week 4

Accademia Gallery, San Lorenzo and San Maria del Fiori
Week 5 San Croce and Pazzi Chapel, Bargello Museum, Palazzo Pitti, and Farewell Dinner


Students will reside in shared student apartments.

Program Cost

The estimated program cost excludes roundtrip airfare to Rome, some meals, and TAMIU tuition/fees.

Application Process

  • Turn in your TAMIU study abroad application and submit the application fee at the Bursars Office
  • Apply for any of the TAMIU study abroad scholarships
  • OSA will provide your program budget to the Office of Financial Aid
  • Complete and turn in your Waiver and Liability Packet by May 1, 2015

Study Abroad Scholarships

TAMIU offers two scholarships for study abroad.  Qualified TAMIU students may complete their application and supporting documents and submit them to OSA together with their study abroad application.  You will be notified via email of your award and the award disbursement date.

Students must have been approved by Ms. Moran for acceptance into the program.


Withdrawal from a study abroad program must be made in writing to OSA.  The application fee of $200 is non-refundable, unless TAMIU cancels the program. TAMIU will refund recoverable tuition and costs as determined by OSA.  Refunds will be calculated from the date OSA is notified in writing of your intent to withdraw.  TAMIU is not responsible for indirect costs paid directly by students, including but not limited to passport fees, vaccinations, and transportation costs.

*TAMIU reserves the right to make changes to this itinerary as deemed appropriate by the program leader due to unforeseen circumstances.  However, every effort will be made to adhere to the itinerary as closely as possible.

**TAMIU reserves the right to adjust program fees or cancel any program without prior notification; however, every effort will be made to provide information on cancellations in a timely manner.  In the event of cancellation, TAMIU will refund application fees and recoverable program fees.
