Study abroad is a discovery process, a discovery of foreign language and academics, countries and cultures, but most importantly it is a discovery of you! It is our hope that you will participate in a program that will educate and enrich you. TAMIU has a comprehensive offering of study abroad programs, financial aid, and student services to guide you in this process.
In preparation for your study abroad experience, we encourage you to become engaged early-on in the international opportuntities the University offers you on-campus. We have a number of international students and faculty on our campus coming from over 40 countries. Make efforts to meet with them and to learn about their cultural backgrounds and assist them in the integration process when arriving to TAMIU. You can become an International Student Mentor, be a leader or member of the Association of International Students, and be an active participant in events such as Café du Monde, Global Talk!, and International Week.
As faculty members we hope that you extend your international knowledge and experiences to students, in academic as well as personal settings. You are the front line with our students, and they look to you for guidance, encouragement, and learning. We thank you for your continued support of all things international on the TAMIU campus, and welcome you to visit us with your ideas and suggestions for enhancing campus internationalization.
If you are a parent or close family member of a student who is going abroad, we welcome you to our family. We take our responsibilities with our students seriously, and put first priority on the safety and well-being of our students and faculty abroad. Feel free to contact us directly if you would like to speak with us about study abroad and how we manage the various aspects that may concern you as a parent.
