Leadership Opportunities
Leaders aren't born, they are made.

The Office of Student Affairs provides a wide range of ways for you to develop your leadership skills at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU). Each program is aimed at enhancing your goal-setting, communication, and managerial skills.

The areas and programs that are currently available are:

Campus Activities Board (CAB)

CAB brings pride, tradition and quality experiences to the TAMIU campus by bringing entertainment for the entire campus community that informs and educates the entire campus community. Imperative 1: Students (Goals 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5). TAMIU Trailblazers (Personal Enrichment - Entering and Engagement Stage).

Community Service

OSA helps coordinate community and volunteer projects to assist the Laredo and South Texas region. The purpose is to promote service-learning as a fundamental component of helping the need.

Freshman Leadership Organization (FLO)

FLO is committed to provide an enriching program that enhances the strengths of ambitious students, to develop proactive and exemplary leaders. The organization strives to maximize leadership skills, while encouraging moral ethics to positively influence our society and build a better world.

Honor Council

The Honor Council is made up of students, faculty and staff who hear appeals due to alleged academic violations pertaining the the Student Handbook. Members are directly responsible for deciding if a violation occurred and, if necessary, recommending sanctions to appropriate parties.

International Student Mentors

The ISM are a peer support activity program which helps with the assimilation process of new international students to TAMIU and South Texas. After being accepted to TAMIU, students receive a Texas size welcome and support from ISM in the form of pre-arrival interaction via e-mail or social networks, orientation activities and general support throughout the semester.

Latino Leadership Initiative (LLI)

Each year, six TAMIU students are selected to participate in the Latino Leadership Initiative (LLI) that brings together students from across the country. The students require a two-year commitment, as they will work together with the Office of Student Affairs to complete a community action project aimed at assisting Latino students in the region.

Leadership TAMIU

This leadership program is for students in their junior and senior years at TAMIU that are ready to take the next step in developing their leadership skills as they prepare for the future. Leadership TAMIU will give you the opportunity to listen to proven leaders in various fields that will teach you the principles of communication, ethics, teamwork, service learning and engagement, time management, and goal-setting.

Orientation Leaders (OLs)

Orientation Leaders (OLs) are students that serve as role models to help new students at TAMIU adjust to the rigors of being a college student. OLs are expected to be good communicators, demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, be enthusiastic, be creative, be honest, and be themselves. Orientation Leaders will guide new students as they begin their studies at TAMIU. OLs will interact with students, provide campus tours, answer questions, and develop new ideas for New Student Orientation: Dusty Camp.

Sophomore Leaders Involved in Change (SLIiC)

Sophomore Leaders Involved in Change will focus on the social change model of leadership to develop projects intended to assist the region, but are capable of producing larger scale projects that can be emulated in other communities. The program is two semesters in length (September to April) and intended for students ready to make a global impact. The program will culminate in the completion of a social change project, which the student will be responsible in showcasing to community members at the end of the program.

Student Government Association (SGA)

The Student Government Association shall be considered and referred to as the official advisory body of the students to the University administration, faculty, and staff. In addition, it serves as a voice to the Board of Regents, and the Texas Legislature in all matters affecting the student body. Imperative 1: Students (Goals 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5). TAMIU Trailblazers (Personal Enrichment - Engagement Stage).

TAMIU Trailblazers

The TAMIU Trailblazers program is a co-curricular leadership initiative that serves as a student’s road map to success.  The Trailblazers program enables registered TAMIU students to access co-curricular programs that compliment what a student is learning in the classroom.  Engagement in the TAMIU Trailblazers program assists students in being more prepared for the ever-changing global market and become more competitive in the world of work and graduate studies.
