Orientation Programs

The Office of Student Affairs provides incoming students and their families the opportunity to get acquainted with our campus by providing numerous orientation program for new, transferring, and current students in addition to parent and family orientation.

International Student Orientation (est. 2012)

International Student Orientation serves as the official welcome of international students to our campus. This program provides information on academic standards and expectations combined with student services available at TAMIU for them to be successful. In addition, representatives from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Department of State are available for questions students may have on maintain status, while in the United States of America. This orientation program is a two days and required for all visa holders, as essential information is provided on compliance of visa, and travel information.

Freshman Student Orientation (est. 2008)

Freshman Student Orientation: Dusty Camp is provided for new, first time freshmen entering the University. This is the first opportunity for students to understand the differences between high school and the university in order to be successful. Sessions that include information on student services, academic expectations and standards together with important trainings on Uconnect, campus safety and involvement opportunities are provided to students so that they are successful during their first year and beyond at TAMIU. This is an exciting opportunity for students to meet their new classmates and learn about what to expect know that they attend TAMIU. This is an overnight experience and is required for all students.

Transfer Student Orientation (est. 2009)

The Dustdevil Transition is provided as an alternative orientation program for those students coming to TAMIU from other campuses. This program is primarily for transfer students and allows students to learn about how to be successful, now that they have joined the TAMIU family. Information on student services, academic expectations and standards are combined with training sessions on Uconnect, campus safety and how to get involved. This is a one-day experience and is required for all transfer students entering the University.

Pre-departure Orientation (Study Abroad)

Pre-departure orientation is provided to students who will study abroad in a subsequent term. Expectations, requirements and tips are provided for a successful program experience.

Parent and Family Orientation (est. 2009)

Parent and Family Orientation is a one-day orientation that runs simultaneously to the first day of New Student Orientation: Dusty Camp and gives families the opportunity to become acquainted with the TAMIU campus, our programs, and the faculty/staff that makes us the premiere university of South Texas. Families are able to hear from various University representatives on what opportunities their students have to be successful while learning to support their child as a university student. This program is optional and there is no fee for parents or families.
