2008 TAMUS Student Affairs Symposium
MAY 14 – 16, 2008

The faculty, staff, and students of Texas A&M International University welcome you to the 2008 TAMUS Student Affairs Symposium.

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) in Laredo, TX is the host for the 18th Annual TAMUS Student Affairs Symposium that will be held May 14th – 16th, 2008.

Founded near the edge of the Rio Grande in 1970 as Texas A&I University in Laredo and later known as Laredo State University, Texas A&M International University moved into its new home in 1995 after becoming a part of the Texas A&M University System in 1989. In 2005, TAMIU celebrated its 35th Anniversary and the inaugural Autumn Music (AutMus) Fest was held with the collaboration of the TAMIU Alumni Association. The University boasts a wide array of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in a variety of disciplines. With over 5,000 students, TAMIU has become one of the fastest growing institutions in the A&M System and the state. True to its name, A&M International is currently represented by over 20 countries in its diverse student population.

Nestled on the banks of the historic Rio Grande, Laredo is a historic town with a lot of character and fun filled activities held throughout the year. Founded in 1755, Laredo celebrated its 250th Anniversary in 2005 and holds the distinction of being the only city in the state of Texas to fly under a seventh flag, the Republic of the Rio Grande. The annual Washington’s Birthday Celebration (WBC), established in 1898, is the largest celebration of its kind in the United States with an average of over 400,000 attendees.  Laredo houses the Republic of the Rio Grande Museum, Washington Birthday Celebration Museum, and the Imaginarium of South Texas. Sports fans cheer on the 2006 Central Hockey League Champion Laredo Bucks, the UL Baseball Laredo Broncos, the 2007 North American United Soccer League PDL Champion Laredo Heat and NCAA Division II TAMIU Fighting Dustdevils.
