Thank you for your interest in our Title V-EEP Spring 2010 Faculty Math Academy. With your support, we have had an overwhelming amount of applicants from our community and surrounding districts express an interest in participating in this very exciting initiative. Candidates chosen for this initiative will be contacted via email.

Funded by the U. S. Department of Education, this collaborative initiative involving Laredo Community College and Texas A&M International University is a clear indication of both institutions’ strong commitment to provide educational experiences of the highest quality to their students.

The Title V - Educational Excellence Project (EEP) was established to provide support services to students enrolled in College Algebra, the faculty members delivering these courses, and middle and high school students on their paths to college.

We encourage all College Algebra students to visit on a regular basis the Title V Technology and Enrichment in Mathematics (TEMA) Computer Laboratory to take full advantage of the excellent support provided by our especially trained tutors and staff, as well as the technological resources readily available for use.

We also urge our College Algebra faculty members to actively participate in the professional staff development program delivered by highly qualified and experienced professional educators.  These individuals have a deep understanding of mathematics, as well as different pedagogical practices and resources that can be used to design, deliver and assess mathematics instruction consistent with students’ diverse learning styles.

Faculty, tutors and other Title V - EEP staff are also encouraged to make extensive use of the different resources housed in the Instructional Digital Mathematics Library Resource Center.  These research-based materials focus on:  curriculum design, assessment, ethno-mathematics and sound pedagogical practices to facilitate the planning, implementation and evaluation of Title V activities.

The Community Outreach Coordinator working with the Title V - EEP is dedicated to disseminating and explaining information about this initiative to local middle and high school students, counselors, administrators and the community. This information is intended to help our middle and high school colleagues ensure that students graduating from high school are well prepared for higher education so that they can successfully complete College Algebra and eventually the degree program of their choice.

Enjoy your visit to our portal! Please do not hesitate to contact us for any additional information about the Title V Educational Excellence Project.

Respectfully,

Juan Lira, Ph.D.
