Mission Statement of the office of
Title V – Educational Excellence Project at Texas A&M International University
The mission of the Office of Title V – Educational Excellence Project (EEP) at Texas A&M International University is to provide an academically engaging, culturally relevant and supportive learning environment for College Algebra students to help them experience academic success. These services, which are grounded in relevant research and best practices, are intended to:
Provide tutoring support to College Algebra students by well-prepared tutors in the Title V - EEP Technology and Enrichment in Mathematics (TEMA) Computer Laboratory, which is equipped with state of the art technology to supplement the students’ classroom instruction.
Provide a structured Faculty Development Program for College Algebra faculty that is responsive to their expressed needs and which focuses on the following areas: curriculum design, assessment, ethno-mathematics, and sound pedagogical practices.
Establish a mathematic Instructional Digital Resource Center containing relevant research and resources related to: curriculum design, assessment, ethno-mathematics and sound pedagogical practices. These resources will be made available to College Algebra faculty, tutors, and other Title V staff to facilitate the planning, implementation and evaluation of Title V activities.
Facilitate the implementation of a Community Outreach Program that extends Title V services to local middle and high school students, counselors, administrators and the community..
Title V is a cooperative grant shared by Laredo Community College (Lead Institution) and Texas A&M International University (Partner Institution). The five year grant was awarded in October 2007 and is funded via the U. S. Department of Education Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions program. According to the Department of Education's web site, "This program helps eligible institutions of higher education enhance and expand their capacity to serve Hispanic and low-income students by providing funds to improve and strengthen the academic quality, institutional stability, management, and fiscal capabilities of eligible institutions.
