Guidelines for Posters and Videos


At the Expo, you can present a Poster or Video that showcases your experience during your Service-Learning course. You can register in groups or individually.

During the Expo you will have to present your poster or video to 2 judges who will rate you oral presentation and display. Please review the guidelines below as you prepare your presentation.

Posters


You can present your poster in two formats. A Professional Style Poster (picture on the left below) or a Traditional Tri-Fold Poster (picture on the right below).

If you would like to have a Professional Style Poster, you will need to create it as a PowerPoint Slide.

Please size the poster 48" width by 36" height and email it as a PowerPoint Slide to servicelearning@tamiu.edu by Monday, October 30. Click here for additional instructions for creating a Professional Style Poster.

*You are allowed to bring props, brochures, or additional materials to display at your poster table (this is not a requirement, it is optional).


Your poster must have the following information:

Title, Class, Names of Participants, Community Partner


Description of your service experience:

  • What did you do as part of your service?

  • When did you do it?

  • Who did you serve?


Connect your service to course content:

  • How was your service related to your course?

  • How did your service help the community?

  • How did this project help your personal growth?


Examine your Service-Learning experience:

  • What have you learned by being involved in this project/program?

  • How do you plan on utilizing the skills you have learned beyond this course?

  • What has been the most exciting experience with this program?


Be prepared to answer the following questions as part of your oral presentation:

  • What have your learned by being involved in this program/project?

  • How do you plan on utilizing the skills you have learned beyond this course?

  • What has been your biggest challenge?

  • What has been the most exciting experience with this program?

Videos

Video Presentations

You can create a video of your service-learning experience to showcase your service and how it relates to course content. Your video can be of clips of you (and your teammates) participating in your service-learning project. Please review the guidelines below.


Your video must have the following information:

  • Title

  • Class

  • Names of Participants

  • Community Partner

  • Video should explain what your project was about and how it connected to your course.


Be prepared to answer the following questions as part of your oral presentation:

  • What have your learned by being involved in this program/project?

  • How do you plan on utilizing the skills you have learned beyond this course?

  • What has been your biggest challenge?

  • What has been the most exciting experience with this program?


  • Please do not use copyrighted material.

  • Credit all participants of your video.

  • Cite sources used in video.

  • Do not exceed 5 minutes.
