The Dustdevil P.R.I.D.E. Scholarship was dreamt up by the inaugural 2015-16 Student Philanthropy Council in an effort to empower fellow Dustdevils by reducing their financial stress. Selected scholars are recognized for their TAMIU pride, academic achievement, and commitment to serving our community.

HISTORY

  • The Class Giving Campaign--which funds what is now known as the Dustdevil P.R.I.D.E. Scholarship Endowment--was officially launched during the 2016 Spring Grad Fair.

  • The Council's original goal was to raise 5k every year for the next 5 years to start up an endowment for the scholarship.

  • Lauren Tucker '16 was the first selfless donor.

  • In May 2016, Council Members sent in suggestions for naming the scholarship. Philanthropists Revolutionizing Ideologies, Diversity and Education (P.R.I.D.E.) Scholarship--coined by Council Member Adalberto Serna '16--won with a majority of the votes.

  • In October 2016, Council Members decided to award excess funds in the form of a $1,000 scholarship.

  • As of May 2017, the Council has reached over $4,000 in donations for the '17 Class Giving Campaign.
