COURSE DESCRIPTION:


Briefly, this interdisciplinary course provides students with the necessary overview of key themes and issues in the major subject areas within Women's Studies. In addition, the Introduction to Women's Studies course offers a comprehensive review of past and present developments in feminist knowledge and theory.

Included among the topics discussed will be:

* Gender roles: the image of female and male ideals

* Femininity and masculinity in family, work, politics, sexuality, and education

* Women's lives in patriarchy

* Feminism and social policy

* Cross-cultural perspectives in Women's Studies


METHODOLOGY:


In our quest for contemporary knowledge, we will rely upon the most traditional of methods. Using an interdisciplinary Women's Studies primer, we will pose questions, articulate responses, assess these responses, and ask new and increasingly complex questions.
