During the last legislative session, a bill was passed to eliminate the Social Security supplement that paid (by the employer) 5.85% of the employee's share of Social Security Tax on the first $16,500 of annual income.

Employees hired on or before August 31, 1995, will receive a "benefit replacement pay" increase in compensation to offset the loss of the additional state-paid social security. The amount of benefit replacement pay will be based on each eligible employee's pay, including longevity and hazardous duty pay, as of October 31, 1995. Also included is an additional amount to cover increased TRS or ORP deductions required on higher base pay.

Employees hired after August 31, 1995 will not receive the benefit replacement pay increase.
