In an historic visit in February, members of The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents held their quarterly meeting at TAMIU, where among other items, they approved a resolutionhonor- ing TAMIU’s 50th Anniversary. TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz noted the visit’s significance. “The Regents’ leadership and partnership has been critical to multiple TAMIU successes throughout our existence. The Regents have previously visited TAMIU in 1997 and 2002. We are especially excited to have welcomed them to our campus during our milestone 50th Anniversary,” Dr. Arenaz said. The 10-member Board is appointed by the Texas Governor and chaired by Elaine Mendoza. TheRegents oversee the administration and set policy direction for A&M SYSTEM BOARD OF REGENTS TRAVEL HERE FOR QUARTERLY MEETING the System’s 11 universities and eight state agencies, a comprehensive health science center and the RELLIS campus. They ensure a quality undergraduate and graduate education experience for all students; promote academic research and technology to benefit the state of Texas and the nation; disseminate programs of theA&MSystemacross the state throughoutreach andpublic service efforts, and support the state legislative andhigher education leadership to position Texas at the forefront of higher education nationally. The Texas A&M University System is one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, with a budget of $6.3 billion. The Texas A&MSystemeducatesmore than 153,000 students andmakes more than 22million additional educational contacts through service and outreach programs each year. Special University lighting is used strategically on campus to encourage awareness of critical issues including Autismand Breast Cancer. 24
