TAMIU Annual Report 2021

TAMIU students, faculty, and staff joined to create a lasting impact in their local community as part of Make a Difference Day 2021. This year, volunteers focused on the beautification of the Las Palmas Trail. A total of over 270 University volunteers participated in the volunteer effort, generating 3,010 service hours. Located in the heart of downtown Laredo, the Las Palmas Trail is a nature trail and boasts a significant array of local flora and fauna native to the region, including many palm trees. Volunteers focused on gathering fallen palm fronds and cleaning the Trail. Organized through the TAMIU’s Student Government Association’s L.O.V.E. Committee and the Office of Student Conduct and Community Engagement, these initiatives also encourage the partnership of community leaders. This year’s partners included the Laredo Rotary, City Councilmember Alyssa Cigarroa, the Rio Grande International Study Center, Keep Laredo Beautiful and the City of Laredo.
