ALUMNI SPOTLIGHTS Tabata Rodríguez (’19) Tabata is Management Assistant for the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. She works for the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Section of the U.S. Department of State. The Section works through the Merida Initiative, which supports Mexico’s efforts to strengthen its law enforcement institutions, enhance criminal prosecutions and the rule of law, build public confidence in the justice sector, improve border security, promote greater respect for human rights, and prevent crime and violence. “I found out that one of the things I enjoyed the most while I was at TAMIU was sharing parts of my Mexican roots with the Laredo community, so I want to keep doing this on a professional level,” said Rodríguez. Sandra Medina Fallgatter (’92) She’s a Sr. Director for U.S. Import Trade Compliance at Walmart, Inc., and reports to the US Ethics and Compliance Organization, providing overall direction and developing, communicating, building support for, and implementing business strategies for Walmart’s direct import compliance program. She’s been the recipient of the World Customs Organization Certificate of Merit and the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America has named her a Trade Advocate of the Year. And yet, she still finds time to reach out to students and share her insight.
