TAMIU School of Engineering and Medline, the largest privately-held medical products distributor and manufacturer in North America, have partnered on an internship program providing hands-on workplace experiences and recruitment opportunities for students. TAMIU Systems Engineering students can obtain internship positions at Medline’s state-of-the-art surgical procedure trays manufacturing facility in Laredo. The partnership grew from several meetings Dr. Mahmoud T. Khasawneh , director for the School of Engineering, had with corporate and regional Medline representatives. “TAMIU’s Systems Engineering program is at the forefront of providing work-ready graduates. The Medline internship program is a testament to our continued commitment to that. Kavita Idnani-Ramos (’04), Medline’s Laredo Human Resources Manager, affirmed TAMIU students’ versatility, noting School alumni quickly learn new processes and concepts and immediately contribute to company success. “TAMIU’s engineering program equips their students to succeed in the workplace,” said Idnani-Ramos, “Our partnership provides students the benefit of gaining work experience with an industry-leading company… and we also get to show why a career at Medline is so rewarding.” TAMIU’s Systems Engineering program is ABET- accredited and was established in 2009. Graduates see prestigious job and graduate school placement in Fortune 500 companies and leading universities respectively.
