Food insecurity is often considered an invisible epidemic on college campuses, with research noting a staggering 30 percent of all college students experience food insecurity during their college experience. The A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business was the winner of this year’s Penny Wars Campaign. Penny Wars is an innovative fundraiser first established in 2015 by the Student Philanthropy Council, which since its inception has created and built a $50K scholarship endowment. Penny Wars encourages students to donate spare change in support of a specific campus area or program in a friendly competition between TAMIU Colleges and Schools. Since its launch, Penny Wars has raised over $18,000 for scholarships and programs…and that’s how pennies are for much more than thoughts! 34
