Some 200+ students were recognized for their commitment to fostering leadership on campus during the Emerging Leaders Celebration, which recognizes students who participated in various leadership programs at TAMIU throughout the past year. Students were also honored for their hard work and dedication towards improving not only themselves, but also their communities, whether at TAMIU, in Laredo, or the world. TAMIU College of Education Dean Dr. James O'Meara said competing at the Conference prepares students to display their capabilities and leadership at a national level. "Competing at the Educators Rising National Conference provides a venue for our TAMIU students to showcase their creativity, dedication, and leadership on a national stage," he said. Educators Rising is a community-based model, in which chapters at schools feed teacher preparation programs at institutions of higher education with the support of state departments of Education and local funders and foundations. These entities come together to provide a clear pathway to address teacher shortages and educators reflect the communities they serve.
