TAMIU Annual Report 2024

MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY BOASTS 700+ VOLUNTEERS, GENERATES $900K IN MONETARY IMPACT Over 700+ volunteers made up of TAMIU students, faculty, staff, and alums spent their morning at the Las Palmas Trail and La Azteca neighborhood in celebration of Make a Difference Day 2024, held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024. Together, volunteers generated 28,560 hours of community service with an approximate monetary impact of $908,208. Their efforts focused on the nature trail located in downtown Laredo by the Rio Grande water’s edge. Volunteers picked up palm fronds and cleaned up the trail. An additional group spent time in the historic La Azteca neighborhood, where they painted homes and beautified the area. Organized by the University’s Office of Student Conduct and Community Engagement, the event involved the collaborative efforts of the Student Government Association L.O.V.E. Committee, the City of Laredo, Keep Laredo Beautiful, Rotary International, ARCA Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, 7 Brew Coffee, and the University’s Housing and Residence Life. Make a Difference Day has established itself as a longstanding tradition aimed at harnessing the collective efforts of the campus community to spearhead a community-wide improvement initiative. Since 2010, volunteers have worked on various community-wide projects benefiting groups such as Habitat for Humanity, Volunteers Serving the Need, the Laredo Animal Care Facility, the Ruthe B. Cowl Rehabilitation Center, and many more. View an event highlight video at: go.tamiu.edu/madd-2024 TAMIU Students at Make a Difference Day 30
