Since its 2008 launch, TAMIU’s Dusty Promise, a financial assistance program, has helped students receive over $26.7 million in free aid. Of those who have been assisted, 474 students have earned a Bachelor’s degree and 87 a Master’s degree. The Dusty Promise covers remaining tuition and mandatory fees not addressed by federal, state and institutional aid, like Federal Pell and TEXAS Grants, scholarships and other gift aid. Likewise, the Toward Excellence, Access, and Success (TEXAS) Grant financial aid allocation awarded $17.8 million in aid, with specific assistance targeting transfer students. TAMIU vice president for Enrollment Management, Juan Gilberto García, Jr. noted the impact of the TEXAS grant and its measurable potential for students and their families. “TAMIU was eager to be considered for this new Texas Transfer Grant allocation. We’re pleased that our campus was singled out to receive funds that target transfer students who have already earned an associate’s degree,” García said. Despite TAMIU’s admirable tradition of assistance and new resources, financial support for students continues to be a critical and deciding factor in their pursuing a college degree.
