TAMIU Annual Security and Fire Safety Report 2023

87 TAMIU and TAMUS-RELLIS have a comprehensive written Emergency Management Plan and Standard Operating Procedures in place. The Plan is administered by the Emergency Management Team which draws its membership from University division, department, and office levels. Divisions, departments, and offices should familiarize themselves with information in this plan. The Emergency Management Plan is available by contacting the Office of Environmental Health and Safety at 956.326.2194 or TAMUS-RELLIS Academic Alliance at 979-317-3410 EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PLAN RESPONSE TESTING AND DRILLS In conjunction with other emergency agencies, the University conducts emergency response tests each year, such as tabletop exercises, field exercises, and tests of the emergency notification systems on campus. These tests, which may be announced or unannounced, are designed to assess and evaluate the emergency plans and capabilities of the institution. Each test is documented and includes a description of the exercise, the date and time of the exercise, and whether it was announced or unannounced. The campus publicizes a summary of the emergency response and evacuation procedures, in conjunction with at least one test per calendar year, via email annually in accordance with the requirements of the Higher Education Opportunity Act. EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURES The emergency evacuation procedures for all campus buildings are tested at least once each year. Students and employees learn the locations of the emergency exits in the buildings and are provided guidance about the direction they should travel when exiting each facility for a short-term building evacuation. PD does not tell building occupants in advance about the designated locations for long-term evacuations because those decisions are affected by time of day, location of the building being evacuated, the availability of the various designated emergency gathering locations on campus, and other factors such as the location and nature of the threat. In both cases, staff on scene will communicate information to students regarding the developing situation or any evacuation status changes.
