Leadership and Management in Nursing
 
Four semester hours, two theory, six clinical  (SP)
 
In this theoretical and experiential course, current theories of management and leadership are examined and related to nursing practice.  Leadership is examined as a process which can be learned. The essential components of this process include the knowledge and skills for the effective use of power as a positive force in bringing about desired change and influencing health care.  Critical thinking is used to develop innovative and creative approaches to nursing practice through clinically related applications.  Management theories are compared and contrasted in relation to nursing management and the nursing process. Prerequisite: NURS 3314, NURS 3315, NURS 3590 NURS 3665 or NLN Mobility Exams. Co-requisite: NURS 3625, NURS 4375.
