CRIJ 4334
Minorities in the Criminal Justice System

Three semester hours  (FL)

This course investigates the reasons for the differential treatment of minorities in the American criminal justice system.  The focus of the course is on the crime producing impacts of race and ethnic relations in this country that next to economic marginalization, creates a social, economic and political impasse in which crime becomes an every day social reality in inner city urban centers where most indigent minorities reside and become both the perpetrator as well as the victim of crime.  Prerequisite for CRIJ majors:  Successful completion of lower-level CRIJ courses (or equivalent courses) required for the CRIJ major.  Prerequisite for non-majors:  Junior standing.  May be taken for graduate credit.
