Minorities in the Criminal Justice System

| This
course investigates the reasons for the differential treatment of
minorities in the American criminal justice system. The focus
of the course is on the crime producing impacts of race and ethnic
relations in this country that next to economic marginalization, creates
a social, economic and political impasse in which crime becomes an
every day social reality in inner city urban centers where most indigent
minorities reside and become both the perpetrator as well as the victim
of crime. Prerequisite for CRIJ majors: Successful completion
of lower-level CRIJ courses (or equivalent courses) required for the
CRIJ major. Prerequisite for non-majors: Junior standing.
May be taken for graduate credit. |
