Dusty's Junior University Summer Camp 2019

STEM STEM is curriculum based on the idea of ed- ucating students in four specific disciplines in science, technology, engineering and mathe- matics. Students will be more proactive in in- corporating these subjects into fun enrichment hands-on activities and interactive projects such as: constructing a roller coaster, a Ferris wheel, and more. Session 3, Block 3 Session 4, Block 3 Crime Scene Investigators Fun Fact: One of the first accounts of forensic science was used to solve a crime that occurred in 44 B.c around Julius Caesar’s time. Campers will attempt to solve crime mysteries. They will play the role of detectives for two weeks. These young detectives will learn basic civic laws used in these types of cases, the type of crime-solving equipment law enforcement uses, and techniques in gathering evidence such as fingerprints, hair follicles, and DNA. CSI comes to TAMIU Junior U this summer! Session 3, Block 1 Session 4, Block 1 Lights, Camera, Action Does your child aspire to be in front of the bright lights? In this class, campers will have their time to shine. This will be a month long course. They will be acting in a play, “Lion King,” and will show case what they learned at the end of the session. Parents and family members will have the opportunity to spectate what their child has learned. Session 1, Block 2 Session 2, Block 2 Session 3, Block 2 Session 4, Block 2 Math is Awesome! Polish what teachers taught throughout the scholastic year in this class. Campers review basics such as multiplication tables, division, reducing fractions and even converting into decimals. They will accomplish this by doing hands on activities that will help them gain the knowledge to continue to love the subject. Session 1, Block 2 Session 2, Block 2 Mock Trials Campers will learn first-hand the process of what a criminal trial includes. These young attorneys will be assigned a case and then will present to the class. Campers will have fun defending their client in a mock trial and their public speaking, persuasive and critical thinking skills. Session 1, Block 4 Session 2, Block 4 Greeks & Legends It’s time to travel in Time! Campers will be tak- ing a trip back to the mytical time when Gods and Goddesses existed. Campers will discover the magic of Greek mythology and the impact it still has today. Further exploration will research projects on their favorite mythological creature, viewing clips on the different Gods and other hands-on activities. Session 1, Block 1 Session 2, Block 1 Write like A Pro Writing is a crucial skill needed in today’s world and although it is taught in schools, continued instruction and practice is needed to become proficient. Have your student write like a pro! Creative writing methods will be implemented to motivate students to write about relevant issues. Campers will also polish and improve their grammatical skills by reviewing proper sentence structure and correct punctuation. Session 1, Block 3 Session 2, Block 3 5TH & 6TH GRADE
