NSF S-STEM Program TAMIU College of Arts & Sciences Community-aid (CASC-aid) Scholarship

NSF SCHOLARSHIPS IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS PROGRAM (S-STEM)

Each academic year, this project supports 18 STEM scholarships of up to $6,800 based on financial need and academic potential. Students must meet eligibility requirements, including demonstrated financial need. Scholarships are renewable for a second year when the retention criteria are met. Scholarships will be awarded over five years, from Spring 2017 through Fall 2022, depending on the availability of funds.

The goal of CASC-aid Scholarship is to improve recruitment, retention, and graduation rates for students pursuing the following bachelor’s degrees: BA Double Majors with one of the majors in mathematics, engineering, or chemistry, BA Mathematics, BA Mathematics 7-12 Certification, BS Chemistry, BS Mathematics, BS Systems Engineering, or Pre-engineering at TAMIU. S-STEM CASC-aid Scholarship will allow students to focus on academics and reduce the burden of seeking other forms of financial support, such as loans, work study positions, or employments inside or outside of the University. Academic support will ease the transition to TAMIU and provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to complete their degree at TAMIU. It will also provide tools required for employments in the 21^st century, balancing professional and family life, and/or applying for and succeeding in graduate and professional schools. Professional development activities will expose students to innovative career opportunities in STEM fields while encouraging students to develop a network of colleagues in the scientific community. The program is designed with flexible requirements to allow students to adapt their program experiences tailored towards their interests and needs.

• One recommendation letter from teacher or school counselor/advisor
• Current transcripts:
• High-school senior applicants: Official transcripts of high school
• Transferred applicants: Official transcripts of all college work
• TAMIU applicants: Official or unofficial transcripts of all college work
• Completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) submitted online
