Applied Clarinet

After 27 years as a full-time music professor, Dr. Andy Wen now serves on the music faculty at Texas A&M International University in Laredo, teaches privately in the San Antonio area, and performs with the County Line Community Band where he also serves as Vice-President. He has performed concertos with bands and orchestras, solo recitals, and chamber concerts, in twenty-five states and twelve countries: Belgium, Canada, China, Croatia, France, Japan, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and Thailand. He has premiered five concertos that were written for him and has recorded two CDs.

He previously taught at Del Mar College where he was Department Chair; Millersville University; and the University of Arkansas at Monticello and Little Rock. Many of his students are currently enjoying successful careers in music including several who are teaching at universities.

Andy received his DMA from the University of Georgia, studying saxophone with Kenneth Fischer and clarinet with Theodore Jahn; MM from Indiana University, studying saxophone with Eugene Rousseau and clarinet with Earl Bates; BM from Ohio University, studying saxophone with Allyn Reilly and clarinet with David Godshall; Medaille d’Argent (Silver Medal) at the Conservatoire National de Region de Bordeaux, France, studying saxophone with Jean-Marie Londeix.
