DISTINGUISHEDSTUDENT SCHOLARS Lisseth Díaz College of Arts and Sciences Lisseth Díaz is the daughter of Jaime and Otilia Díaz. She graduated from Laredo’s United South High School Magnet Program in 2016. Today, she graduates summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Sociology. While a student at TAMIU, Lisseth was a Study Abroad Global Ambassador, a Leadership Ambassador for the Freshman Leadership Organization, part of the League of Empowered Women, the Green Club, and was inducted to Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. She also worked part-time as a student research assistant with the Depart- ment of Social Sciences and completed an internship at the 406th Judicial District Court. Lisseth plans to pursue a Master of International Affairs with a concentration in International Development. Her longtime goal is to work for the United Nations Development Program. Luz G. González College of Education Luz G. González is a 2015 graduate of Roma High School. She transferred to TAMIU in 2017 from Kansas. Today, she earns a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Interdisciplinary Studies with EC-6 and a Bilingual Emphasis. While at TAMIU, she has been a member of Kappa Delta Epsilon and was a recipient of the Lamar Bruni Vergara Scholarship. She plans to pursue a Master in Curriculum and Instruction and will teach in Laredo. She hopes to inspire students to become the best version of themselves. She plans to teach beyond content to help create advocacy, character and respect. Nelly Salazar graduates with a Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies with concen- trations in English, History, and Philosophy. She is the recipient of numerous TAMIU scholarships and honors, including the B. P. Peggy Newman Scholarship, the Student Success Scholars Scholarship and the Outstanding Student Researcher Award. She has appeared on both the Honor Roll, and Dean’s List. She has been an active member of the University Honors Program, Phi Kappa Phi, and Reading the Globe. She received a Certificate of Leadership for her involvement in the Advising and Mentoring Center as a first-year student success mentor. Nelly Gabriela Salazar University College
