TAMIU Spring 2024 Commencement Program

DISTINGUISHED STUDENT SCHOLARS Marcos Aquiles Villagrán College of Arts & Sciences Originally from Laredo, Marcos A. Villagrán is the son of José Luis and Gloria Villagrán. He attended the Texas A&M International University Julieta and Frank Staggs Academy of International & STEM Studies. Today, he earns a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a 3.89 GPA. While a TAMIU student, Marcos was a member of the Pre-Law Society and the University Honors Program where he served as a research assistant. He worked as a student tutor for the Academic Center for Excellence and as an intern for the Office of Institutional Assessment, Research, and Planning. He was on the Dean’s List for virtually every semester of TAMIU attendance. Marcos plans to attend Law School and become an attorney. His long-term goal is to be a judge in the U.S. Federal Judiciary. Daelyn Garza University College Originally from Nuevo León, México, Daelyn Garza is the daughter of Amabely García and Carlos Rafael Garza. She attended South Texas Academy for Medical Professions in Olmito, TX. Today, she earns a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Multidisciplinary Studies degree with concentrations in biology, psychology, and business administration, and graduates with a 3.5 GPA. While a student at TAMIU, Daelyn was an active member of the TAMIU Psychology Organization, proudly represented the Lamar Bruni Vergara Trust Scholars, and participated in an exchange program in Milan, Italy, while interning for the Texas Department of Health. She received the TAMIU Pride Award, the Lamar Bruni Vergara Trust Scholarship, and the International Education Scholarship. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a graduate degree in psychology. Her long-term goal is to establish her psychology practice. Daniella Hernández College of Education Originally from Zapata, Daniella is the daughter of Benilde Rivera. She attended Zapata High School. Today, she earns a Bachelor of Science with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies with Ec-6 Certification and a Special Education Emphasis, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 3.9 GPA. As a first-generation student, Daniella has demonstrated resilience in achieving her academic goals. She has paved the road in hopes that one day her son will follow in her footsteps. Upon graduation, Daniella plans to advance her education by earning her Master of Science in Special Education with a Specialization in Education Diagnostics, and to begin her professional career as a Special Education teacher. Her longtime goal is to make a difference in each of her students’ lives and to be the support system that all children need.
