DISTINGUISHED STUDENT SCHOLARS Jorge E. Maldonado, III A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business Originally from Laredo, Jorge E. Maldonado, III is the son of Jorge and Nadia Maldonado. He graduated from United High School in 2021. Today, he earns a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, a Bachelor of Business Administration with a Concentration in Finance, and a Certificate in Banking and Financial Institutions, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a 3.856 GPA. While a student at TAMIU, Jorge was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, the Texas Community Bank Honorary Junior Board of Directors, and served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Dean’s Student Advisory Council. He also worked part-time as an internal auditor at Texas Community Bank. Jorge plans to continue his education at TAMIU by pursuing a Master’s degree in Professional Accountancy and beginning his professional career in auditing. His long-term career goal is to become a licensed CPA. Tanya González De La Miyar College of Nursing and Health Sciences Originally from Laredo, Tanya González De La Miyar is the daughter of Gina De La Miyar González and Gilberto González. She attended J.B. Alexander High School’s Magnet program graduating in the top 2% of her class in 2022. Today, she earns a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA. While a student at TAMIU, Tanya was an active member of the TAMIU National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and served as Historian. She worked as an operations student employee and summer camp counselor in the TAMIU Recreational Sports Center. Tanya participated in community service with The Big Event and studied abroad in Japan. She has completed one year of clinical practicum experience with TAMIU’s Communication Sciences and Disorders Clinic. Tanya received the TAMIU Presidential Scholarship, USF Study Abroad Scholarship, and G and L Martínez Fellows Scholarship, and was recognized on the University’s Dean’s List. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at UT Health San Antonio this Fall. Tanya’s long-term goal is to become a Pediatric Medical Speech-Language Pathologist.
