Soto Book Signing Tonight at 7 p.m. CFPA

A Book Signing for Dr. Gilberto Soto, Texas A&M International University associate professor and chair of the department of Fine and Performing Arts, will be held at 7 p.m. in the lobby of the Center for Fine and Performing Arts.

Dr. Soto will be signing his books "Fiesta de Canciones" and "Multi-Level Strategies for English Language Learning."

"Fiesta" is a two-volume music education Hispanic song book for students kindergarten through second grade and third through sixth grade. Soto is the sole author.

Soto co-authored "Multilevel Strategies for English Language Learners" with Marilyn C. Davidson, a renowned music educator, and the book outlines a method of teaching English language skills through the study of music.

Soto explained the idea was to combine culture and language in an exciting way.

"This book will assist teachers in using comprehensible language for instruction so all students can participate in the classroom learning experience," said Soto, "One of the most popular ways to help children acquire language skills is to integrate learning and multicultural context. Since music and culture have a direct connection, this book offers a tremendous opportunity to bolster children's language skills."

For more information about the book signing, please call 326.2168. University office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
