While school may still be in session, it’s not too early to think about all the fun and excitement of the summer. This year, why not consider spending time at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) by enrolling in ‘Dusty’s Junior University.’

Whether it be creating colorful masterpieces in the Little Picassos class, studying marine biology in Extreme Sharks and Sea Creatures course, exercising budding musical skills as ‘Dusty’s Musicians’ or building and racing a soap box car, this year’s Summer Camp offers classes for all interests and grade levels, ranging from K-12.

Additionally, high school students can begin preparing for the SATs and Texas Success Initiative Assessment, or TSI test which gauges whether a student is ready for college-level coursework. Students are encouraged to register for these intensive preparation courses as space is limited.

A complete list of courses for K-12 students, including camp registration and cost information, is available at http://www.tamiu.edu/ce/summercamp/

Michelle Begwin, TAMIU Continuing Education administrative associate, noted that students create their class schedule by choosing four classes to take throughout the day.

“Our Summer Camp is a unique venue for growth, allowing kids to become independent and self-confident. Students will have an opportunity to socialize, make new friends and learn new knowledge and skills so that they can start the academic year ahead,” Begwin noted.

Camp sessions are slated for June 3 -13, June 17 -27, July 1-11 and July 15-25. Each session is Monday – Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Parents can also opt for aftercare, provided until 5:30 p.m. daily, for an additional fee.

Students can choose to bring their lunch and snacks, or parents can purchase a meal plan. Parents must obtain any meal plan purchases before Summer Camp sessions start.

Regular registration for Summer Camp continues until April 5. Late registration begins April 8 and continues through May 27.
