Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has posted a record student enrollment this Spring with 7,436 combined undergraduate and graduate students “Going Beyond.” This marks a 6% increase over last Spring’s  7,017 enrollment.

Semester credit hours (SCH), generated by courses students are taking, is also up 6.2% (86,387) over last Spring’s 81,330. SCH is an important factor in State higher education funding.Of this Spring’s total TAMIU enrollment, 6,423 are undergraduates, while 1,013 are graduate or doctoral students.

Among higher education institutions, Spring enrollments are generally lower than Fall enrollments as Fall concludes with December graduation.

TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz said that the enrollment increase is a testament to the University’s high standard of excellence in accessibility, affordability and program delivery.

“This is great news and demonstrates how the communities we serve value TAMIU’s program excellence,” Dr. Arenaz said, “Our founding mission provides access to higher education, enhances lives and broadens horizons.  At TAMIU,  every student can ‘Go Beyond’ and get a quality, world-class education at an affordable price. This enrollment confirms that more students and families are realizing this.”

Provost Dr. Tom Mitchell concurred and explained that the enrollment increase also helps to support University funding.

“As a State agency, a majority of TAMIU’s funding is allocated by the State, which evaluates both enrollment and SCH,” Dr. Mitchell  said, “This increase reflects the shared commitment by both our faculty and students to reach new heights in achievement and should impress our Legislature as it considers funding for higher education.”
