Throughout the past 14 years, children and families alike have enjoyed traveling through space and venturing to the stars, all from the comfort of recline seats in the Texas A&M International University  (TAMIU) Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium.

This year, the Planetarium will host its Anniversary Celebration Saturday, April 13with a screening of Disney-Pixar’s latest hit, the “Incredibles 2.”

Showtimes are scheduled for noon, 2:20 p.m. (in Spanish) and 4:45 p.m. Film admission will be $5 for adults and $4 for children.

Throughout the afternoon-long Celebration, student groups will be selling snacks, in addition to a full concession stand. Fun activities including face painting and do-it-yourself activities will also be offered.

Named after the late Laredo philanthropist Lamar Bruni Vergara, the Planetarium opened in April 2005 as one of only 14 new-generation Digistar 3 digital projectors in the United States.

The 40-foot dome of the Planetarium is inside a four-sided pyramid sheathed in glass and topped with a gold leaf pinnacle.

In 2014, the Planetarium was upgraded to a state-of-the-art Digistar 5 projection system from one of the leading planetarium manufacturing companies in the world and can now show the view from any part of the known universe.

Currently, it utilizes two sophisticated 4K digital projectors to display a 360˚ video image on the dome eight times the resolution of 1080i HD television.
