This summer, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is offering free, Engineering exploration workshops for middle, high school and University STEM Major sophomores.

The TAMIU MSEIP Engineering Program for middle and high school students will be offered various times: June 3 - 7, July 1 - 5, July 22 - 26, and Aug. 5 - 9. This is a week-long workshop and applications are open till May 3, 2019 for the first workshop. Future workshops application deadlines will be announced soon.

The college sophomore workshops, open to TAMIU students only, will be offered May 27 - 31 and Aug. 12 - 16. Students will have a chance to earn a $150-$200 scholarship. The first workshop application is open till May 3, 2019. Future workshops application deadlines will be announced soon.

Dr. Tariq Tashtoush, TAMIU assistant professor of Engineering, said the Engineering program for the middle and high school students is a great opportunity for local students to explore college life and learn what is required to get into the STEM field.

“In addition, students will experiment with multiple topics of interest and that will encourage them to decide their future careers,” Dr. Tashtoush said, “Getting such information at early age will allow students to be more successful in planning their future and start the work toward achieving their goals.”

The program for college sophomores, on the other hand, is focused on TAMIU STEM students conducting research in courses on topics that they will see in their junior and senior years, getting them updated with state-of-the-art equipment and research that TAMIU offers.

“They will be building their network with professors and upper-classmen, which will help them overcome any challenge they will face and make their transition to the higher-level courses easier and successful,” Tashtoush said.
