Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) alumni are invited to take part in an upcoming art exhibit that celebrates their talent while helping commemorate the University’s upcoming 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Submissions are currently sought for the “Going Beyond” Alumni Art Exhibit, slated for Thursday, Sept. 12 from 5 - 7 p.m. at TAMIU’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts’ Gallery. The deadline to submit artwork for consideration is Monday, July 1.

Entering artwork for selection is free. All artwork by alumni must be completed post-graduation and created within the past three years. Up to five pieces can be submitted.

Submitted artwork will be eligible for cash awards, depending on juror selection. Artwork also will be eligible for sale with no commission, or donated to raise funds. Alumni can volunteer to donate their accepted work to a silent auction to help raise scholarship funds for the University’s visual arts students.

“The TAMIU Visual Art Department has over 20 years of history with the University, and we are excited to have our alumni exhibit as part of TAMIU’s 50th Anniversary events throughout the year,” said TAMIU assistant professor of art Jesse Shaw.

He explained, “It’s an important and impactful experience for our current students to see the work our alumni have continued to make and to have an opportunity to hear some of them speak to their personal experiences within the art world here and beyond.”

While there is no size requirement for work, accepted artwork on paper, including photographs, must be installation-ready.

Additional artwork guidelines for accepted pieces are:

  • Artwork must be matted securely with backing material.
  • Two-dimensional work, excluding paintings on canvas, should be framed and have wire attached for hanging.
  • Two-dimensional work over 24 x 36 does not need to be framed.
  • Works in any media including 2D, 3D, installation, video, and performance will be considered.
  • Final selection of artwork will be decided upon by the University’s Gallery Committee.

Submissions must be emailed in JPEG format at 72 dpi with no more than 1200 pixels max on any side. All images should be labeled with last name, first initial and image number.

An image list with titles, media, date of completion, and dimensions should be provided. The artist's name, address, phone number and year of graduation should also be included and sent to jesse.shaw@tamiu.edu

Shipped work must arrive with prepaid return shipping labels and should be installation-ready. Each artist is responsible for round-trip shipping and delivery.

Applicants will be notified by July 15. Accepted artwork must be dropped off between Sept. 5 - 6.
