TAMIU Observes Mental Health Awareness Week Sept. 30 – Oct. 4

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) will observe Mental Health Awareness Week Sept. 30 – Oct. 4 with a variety of events.

The observance is sponsored by TAMIU’s Office of Student Counseling and Disability Services. 

Included will be a Community Wellness Information Fair, a  Speaker Series, a movie showing and a culminating Suicide Awareness Walk.

The observance begins Monday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. with the Wellness Information Fair in the Student Center Rotunda. Representatives from campus services and related community agencies will be on hand to share information and prize opportunities.

On Tuesday, Oct. 1, TEDm speakers will offer “TEDm Talks” on trauma, seasonal depression and physical activity and mental health. On Wednesday, the focus will be Veterans and mental health, conquering your fears and self-care and well-being.  On Thursday, toxic relationships and emotional health, shattering the silence and awareness of LGBTQA mental health will be explored.  All Oct. 1 - 3 sessions are offered from 11 a.m.  to 2 p.m.

Thursday will also bring a special student screening of the recent hit movie, “A Star is Born,” at 5 p.m. in the TAMIU Planetarium. Students can support Dusty’s Pantry by donating toiletries and items may qualify for community service hours.

TAMIU’s Mental Health Awareness Week concludes Friday, Oct. 4 with a Suicide Awareness Walk on the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center’s Green at 5:30 p.m. Information booths, activities and prize raffles will follow the Walk.
