TAMIU SBDC Offers OSHA Workshop for Small, Medium-Sized Businesses Thursday, Oct. 17

A workshop for small and medium-sized Texas businesses that wish to remain compliant with Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) safety and health regulations will be offered at Texas A&M International University  (TAMIU) Thursday, Oct. 17, from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Academic Innovation Center, room 222.

Presented by the TAMIU Small Business Development Center, the Workshop is free and open to business owners.

The Occupational Safety Consultation (OSHCON) program is a no-cost and confidential service available to private sector Texas employers through the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Worker’s Compensation, explained Michael González, SBDC director.

“OSHCON’s professional safety and health consultants, located across the state, are available to help employers understand OSHA rules and identify as well as eliminate occupational hazards in their workplace,” González said.

Some of the topics covered during the Workshop include OSHA and employer obligations, information regarding those who need to comply with OSHA standards as well as OSHA hot topics and compliance resources, González said.

Businesses participating in the Workshop can also learn how to receive free evaluations for their businesses that will help them determine whether they are meeting with necessary OSHA regulations, González said.

“At  times, small and medium-sized businesses can be focused on other priorities and not place such an importance on OSHA regulations,” González said, “As a result, they can end up receiving penalties for non-compliance. This is a no-cost, great way to find out what rules they have missed in order to know the steps they need to take to avoid penalties.”

To register for this free Workshop, visit the TAMIU SBDC website at sbdc.tamiu.edu.
