As Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) celebrates its 50th Anniversary, it’s making a good deal of history along the way:  the University’s largest enrollment, 8,455 students, has been achieved this Fall 2019.

“It’s a big number,” said TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz, “and it affirms our 50th Anniversary theme…it is a ‘World of Difference,’ ” Dr. Arenaz said, “When you think back to the Fall of 1970, then-Texas A&I University at Laredo enrolled 285 students. This Fall, our 8,455 students are part of this University’s continued history and transformational impact.”

In a celebration before  the University community on the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library Green, Arenaz introduced the University’s 8000th student, Kevin Zamora, a 2018 Martin High School graduate and TAMIU freshman majoring in Criminal Justice.

“Being named the 8000th student motivates me to continuing pushing forward to achieve my ultimate goal, which is to graduate,” said Zamora.  Upon graduation, Zamora hopes to begin his career in law enforcement.  He is the fourth sibling in his family to attend the University.  His sisters Fabiola (’11) and Alexis (’12) Hurtado are University alumni, and brother Esteban Zamora plans to graduate in December this year.

Students joined in the celebration with cupcakes commemorating the milestone accomplishment.
