TAMIU Fall Dance Concert Takes Stage

Fall Dance Concert

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) dance students will present their 2019 Fall Dance Concert Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theater.

The concerts will feature several dance genres, ranging from ballet, ballet folklórico, jazz and modern dance.

Entrance is $5 minimum donation per person. TAMIU students enter free with an ID. Children 10 years and younger are admitted free.

The concert will showcase the talent of Dance Performance Workshop students – a student organization dedicated to giving University students opportunities to involve themselves in the choreography process. Performances also include improvisation-based choreography, as taught through the Dance Improvisation class.

Choreography for the dance concert includes dance pieces by fine and performing arts faculty members Jee Eun Ahn, assistant professor of Dance; Timothy Rubel, assistant professor of Dance; Ericka García Haynes, adjunct faculty of Dance; Nayeli López, adjunct faculty of Dance and Jessica Zamarripa, adjunct faculty of Dance.

Featured dance titles in the program include “Colima – Jarabe Colimote,” “Habanera,” “Rumba Flamenco,” “Boundaries,” among others.

TAMIU currently offers a minor in Dance. Students can take courses in several genres and can enroll in courses in improvisation, dance history, concert choreography and music for dancers.
