Starting January, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) will offer Texas Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program classes for the first time for public and nonprofit managers through its Office of Continuing Education.

Tracks start January 10 and end in August. Students may sign up for individual courses or for the entire program, said Michelle Begwin, administrative associate for the Office of Continuing Education.

Detailed information about the Program is available at: https://www.tamiu.edu/ce/cpm1.shtml

The nationally-accredited TAMIU Texas CPM Program is a series of seven tracks, or courses, designed to complete technical skill gaps and update the knowledge base of busy, public service and nonprofit career professionals. Students may sign up for individual courses or for the entire program.

“The TAMIU CPM program is endorsed by the Texas Chapters of the American Society for Public Administration and has been approved for Continuing Education credit by a variety of state and local government entities,” Begwin said, “For each course, participants will receive a Certificate of Continuing Education credit from Texas State University for management training and Education.”

Course titles include “Public Personal Administration”, “Managing for Quality,” “Organization Communication,” “Public Finance and Budgeting,” “Productivity and Program Evaluation,” “Information Systems for Managers,” and “Applied Projects Practicum.”

Experienced academic and practitioner faculty members will engage, organize, coordinate and teach each of the CPM courses, Begwin said.

“Academic faculty come from TAMIU, Texas State University, and the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley,” she said, “Practitioners are experienced professionals working for the City of Laredo and Webb County as well as private and nonprofit organizations.”

Participation in TAMIU’s  Texas CPM Program may provide eligibility for membership in a variety of organizations such as the International City/County Management Association, the Texas Society of Certified Public Managers, the American Academy of Certified Public Management, the American Society of Public Administration and the Texas City Management Association.

The program is open to professionals, faculty and students from foreign countries as well, Begwin said, adding that Texas is one of 40 U.S. states that offer the CPM program.

Registration fees for CPM certification is $695 per track. This includes all textbooks and training materials. The cost for the entire, seven-track CPM Program is $4,865.
