This Friday, March 13 is the deadline for the purchase of early bird tickets for the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Alumni Association’s Golden Celebration Saturday, March 28 from 7 – 11 p.m. at TAMIU’s Academic Innovation Center.

The event is a grand alumni reunion that’s part of the University’s milestone year-long 50th Anniversary celebration. Early bird tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple and are available at go.tamiu.edu/golden.

Mario Peña (’78), 50th Anniversary Event chairman, said the event committee is excited to present the Alumni Golden Celebration. Attendees will span alumni from all classes and generations in the University’s 50-year history as Texas A&I University at Laredo, Laredo State University and TAMIU.

“This is truly a landmark celebration that for some of us represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to reconnect with former classmates, faculty and staff who walked alongside us during our educational journey,” Peña said, “We look forward to seeing alumni from the past five decades as they enjoy this grand celebration.”

The evening will include live entertainment with The Reen and Little Sister, food and drinks, giveaways, and  various activities for attendees.

An evening highlight will be the presentation of the 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients: U.S. Congressman Henry Cuéllar (’82) and Dr. Norma Elia Cantú (’73), longtime faculty member and now the Norene R. and T. Frank Murchison Endowed Professor in Humanities at Trinity University.

Also recognized will be the six inaugural recipients  of the Rising Star Awards, which honor notable alumni who have excelled in their chosen professions.

Joshua Llamas (’16, ’19), and TAMIU Alumni Association President, said TAMIU’s 50th Anniversary symbolizes the celebration of an institution that has provided many opportunities for graduates to become better global citizens.

“Not only does TAMIU provide this quality education and opportunity, it instills a motivation to all who have lived and learned here,” Llamas said, “As TAMIU reflects back on its accomplishments and the successes of its alumni, we aim to recognize the efforts and commitment of each and every single person who has ever walked the University’s grounds.”

He continued, “It is our pleasure to invite every alum to our TAMIU Alumni Golden Celebration to celebrate the accomplishments and commitment of our institution and its students. “We hope that as alumni, we can continue to support the efforts of our University and take it to greater heights together,” he concluded.
