“Discover TAMIU,” an annual opportunity for families to connect with Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) at a campus-wide open house that features over 100 activities for all ages is coming Saturday, February 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All events are free of charge and open to all.

Now in its sixth year, Discover TAMIU serves as an family friendly opportunity for community members to engage with the University in a meaningful way, while enjoying the sights and sounds of campus life.

TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz  said the event has come to encapsulate the University’s place and purpose  in the community.

“TAMIU is the artistic, cultural and intellectual hub of our community and our transformative programs truly impact the lives of our students and graduates and the communities they call home. ‘Discover TAMIU’ provides an opportunity to connect with the University and see how we change lives and futures daily. In this, our 50th Anniversary year, we’re especially excited to share our legacy of impact at this cherished annual event,” Dr. Arenaz said.

Scheiby González Fisher, executive director of Special Programs and one of the event’s key organizers, said Discover TAMIU truly offers something fun for everyone.

“Children will have the opportunity to take part in hands-on activities in our musical sessions, colorful performances, and challenging brain twisters; teens will experience what it takes to become a true Dustdevil and learn how to conquer the world with education and a little motivation; parents and college readiness professionals will be taken through a whirlwind of useful information that will prepare them to be college-savvy, and community members will have a chance to meet our gifted faculty, students and the leaders of tomorrow while enjoying the University’s beautiful surroundings,” explained González Fisher.

The event’s experiences are organized along  five different  “Pathways” to explore and enjoy. Included are an ‘Artistic Avenue’ Pathway that allows participants to express themselves through creative art, dance and music. The ‘Spirited Speedway’ Pathway acquaints individuals with Dustdevil traditions.

In the ‘International U’ Pathway, participants can explore culture, the humanities and social sciences with a global twist. Through the ‘Business Boulevard’ Pathway, participants can learn about how business plays a role here and in the world.  Finally, ‘Scientific Journey’ Pathway encourages participants to learn more about science.

Highlights of the day include a plethora of children’s activities, mariachi and dance performances, Planetarium shows, a baseball game, electric car demonstrations, a giant bubble maker, an interactive science activity bus, an obstacle course, soccer training, a video game party, magazine cover photo booth and so much more.
