UT-Health, TAMIU LEAP Program Participants Admitted to Health Sciences Graduate Programs

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) students are reaping the rewards of participating in the Laredo Early Acceptance Program (LEAP).

Three LEAP applicants were recently accepted into the School of Health Professions (SHP) at UT Health San Antonio.

TAMIU students were accepted into various SHP programs including  Austin Fierro and Alexa Alvarez, Occupational Therapy program; Carolina Gómez-Salinas, Physician Assistant Studies program; and Eduardo Siller, Medical Laboratory Sciences program.  

Currently, 10 LEAP participants are involved in the initiative. Students who qualify earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Arts and Sciences, and enter into one of the School of Health Professions’ graduate programs.

Program participants can be accepted into one of five programs, including the Master of Physician Assistant Studies, Master of Science in Respiratory Care, Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Doctor of Occupational Therapy, or Doctor of Physical Therapy.

Before admission to the program, applicants must have been enrolled as a first-time freshman at the University, earn a minimum GPA of 3.2, complete 24-semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in specific science and math prerequisite courses. They must also complete 20 hours working, volunteering, or observing in a health care field related to their corresponding graduate program.

Upon entry into the program, recipients receive academic advising and guidance from UT Health faculty and admission officers. Students also have the opportunity to visit UT Health San Antonio campus and meet with their faculty members.
