Online course offerings for various professional certificates and enrichment opportunities are available through Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) Office of Continuing Education.

Susan Foster, TAMIU director of Continuing Education, said that while all face to face courses have been cancelled until further notice in light of COVID-19 guidance, TAMIU Continuing Education online classes present an optimal opportunity to enhance knowledge or learn a new skillset.

Ranging from legal and health care-related certificate programs to courses in real estate, languages, art and design, and business, online TAMIU Continuing Education classes cater to a wide spectrum of interests for learners of all ages, Foster said.

Courses such as those for a paralegal certificate, medical billing and coding, pharmacy technician, dental assistant and veterinary assistant are especially attractive to those considering a career change at this time, she said.

“We are excited to bring these eLearning opportunities, which can lead to national certification,” she said, “Coupled with externship placement, there is no better way to start or revive a career. Our eLearning programs were designed specifically for individuals seeking to begin or enhance their professional career.

“For example, the Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) A+ training offers a standard competency for entry-level service technicians in the computer industry.  Once certified, the individual possesses the knowledge, skills and customer service skills necessary to be a successful computer service technician.  The CompTIA A+ certification is a nationally-recognized and industry-recognized credential across the IT industry,” she said.

Foster noted TAMIU Continuing Education online courses are affordable, fun, fast, convenient.

“Year-round class offerings can help you earn certification on your own timeline,” she said.

Course participants do not have to be enrolled in TAMIU academic courses to sign up, Foster said.

“These courses are for those who desire to improve their job potential and a Certificate course is job-specific and usually does not require any prerequisites,” she explained.

Continuing Education represents an investment for both employees and employers, Foster said.

“There are many reasons why continuing your education is important: more money; a different life, for example.  Each person has their own motivations. Continuing Education can boost an employee’s career in several ways. On the surface, it may seem like extra courses and certifications solely benefit employees. However, Continuing Education is also a great investment for employers and businesses,” she observed.

“The main reason an employee would desire extra education is to improve his or her skills. In an ever-evolving business landscape where new technologies are introduced frequently, it pays for current employees to learn emerging technological advancements. Instead of hiring new employees, companies can send their workers to training programs to close the gap on the skills needed,” she concluded.
