Application Deadline May 31 for New TAMIU MSN Online Family Nurse Practitioner Program
The deadline is nearing for registered nurses (RNs) in Laredo and South Texas to have an opportunity to advance their careers through a new online graduate program offered by Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Applications are being accepted through May 31, 2020 at ApplyTexas.org.
The TAMIU Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) Online Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Program seeks to address the critical shortage of family nurse practitioners (FNPs) in South Texas, said Dr. Marivic Torregosa, interim dean of the College.
“We are proud to present this new online masters program to experienced registered nurses in South Texas and invite them to become a part of nursing history in Laredo,” Dr. Torregosa said, “FNP’s are in high demand throughout the nation and according to figures by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, can expect a median yearly salary above $113,000.”
An FNP is an advance practice RN who provides primary or specialty care for patients of all ages. They work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. FNPs conduct health exams, provide health education, diagnose illnesses and prescribe medication, among other responsibilities.
The MSN Online Family Nurse Practitioner Program duration is three years.

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Dr. F. M. Canseco School of Nursing is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
The College registered a 100% NCLEX-RN pass rate in 2019 for first-time test-takers. It also boasts a 90% through 100% National Certification Exam pass rate for FNP first-time test-takers in the last four years. Student to professor ratio is 6:1 for clinicals, and all FNP nursing graduates are offered jobs by graduation.
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences offers other nursing programs such as traditional BSN program, RN-BSN (online), and a Masters in Nursing Administration (online).
