Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is now readying for its upcoming online Summer session offerings, with Summer Session I beginning Monday, June 1.

Online registration for the Summer and Fall semester continues online via Uconnect.

Course delivery will be online as part of the University’s flexible and ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, said TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz.

“We have structured our Summer fee schedule to be able to continue to provide all services expected and needed by students. We realize that there are economic factors in play, some of which will be addressed by federal funding assistance from the TAMIU CARES program, but we aren’t charging fees for Athletics, Health Services, REC Center and Student Center for the Summer sessions,” said Dr. Arenaz.

“It’s important to note that all of those services are still being offered to enrolled students.  Our Athletics Department is still providing training and support.  Student Health Services and Student Counseling and Disabilities Services offer scheduled on campus appointments and online services.  Even our REC Sports offerings, despite mandatory closing in accordance with COVID-19 federal and state guidelines, continue with programming and training provided virtually to students. Library services and computer lab access continue. Our campus is open and providing services for all enrolled students,” he added.

He said students enrolled for Summer sessions will receive the same robust support from the campus, with final tuition and fees still among the lowest in the South Texas region.

“We understand the gravity of the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our students.  We have done our best to provide them the services they deserve by adjusting our fee schedule to continue to provide the greatest benefit while using innovations employed by higher education institutions around the region, state and country.  Even with these often sweeping changes, TAMIU remains among the lowest tuition and fee cost campuses in our South Texas region,” he explained.

Arenaz said he also wants to assure Laredo and surrounding area parents that the campus continues to offer an affordable, reliable and hometown option of academic excellence.

“We realize that in light of today’s troubling climate, many parents may be reconsidering their plans for their children’s college destinations this summer or fall. We would encourage them to consider the options available to them, right here at home at TAMIU,” he concluded.

Registration for Summer and Fall 2020 courses is now underway.  An online catalog containing a list of all undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs is at http://catalog.tamiu.edu

As part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, TAMIU’s campus is closed only to the general public. Entry to campus continues for students, faculty, staff and those having legitimate reasons to be on campus. Online and virtual services at the University continue, practicing all CDC Guidelines on gathering, masking and social distancing and with most staff working remotely.  Office hours are subject to change and it is recommended that phone or email contact be made first to determine the office’s schedule of operation.   An online directory is here.

The University’s dedicated COVID-19 website is updated daily and includes information on office schedules and services, an expansive FAQ, quick links, student resources, official information links and much more.
