TAMIU Virtual Walk Host for Alzheimer’s Association

Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®

The 2020 Walk to End Alzheimer’s benefit Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, traditionally held at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), will be virtual, with participants walking on their own to help raise critical awareness in the community.

Last year’s event raised over $95,000 and organizers are hoping to set another record this year.

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This year’s event will not include a large in-person gathering. Instead participants of all ages and abilities are asked to join the fight against the disease by walking in their own neighborhoods.

An Opening and Promise Garden Ceremony will be shared virtually beginning at 9 a.m.  TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz will offer a "Virtual"  welcome.

Walkers can begin their walk in their neighborhood at 9:30 a.m. A  socially distanced Promise Garden Viewing will be available at TAMIU from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Walkers can be everywhere — on every sidewalk, track and trail, participating in small, safe teams.  There  is no fee to register for the Walk, but participants are encouraged to raise funds to help advance the Alzheimer’s Association mission by enabling critical care and support services and advancing research toward methods of prevention, treatment and, ultimately, a cure.

TAMIU has hosted the event annually for some time and fields a team.
