This Spring semester 2021, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) students have a powerful campus ally to ensure their academic success with free tutoring and academic advising services.

TAMIU’s University College offers academic support services both in person and online during flexible and extended hours of operation so students have access to resources to complete their degrees.

Tutoring and academic advising services are located in Dr. Billy F. Cowart Hall, rooms 203 and 205 and in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center, room 222. Hours of operation are Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m.

Dr. Barbara Hong, University College dean, said University College provides free, subject tutoring such as reading content and writing courses to all students and one-on-one academic advising for freshman, transfer and returning students.

“The mission of University College is to empower students to become competent, resilient, and self-determined life-long learners, and we will guide TAMIU students through their academic journey,” she said, “Our team is made up of highly-qualified and caring faculty and staff who are here to provide direction and personalized support so that students can successfully complete their education at TAMIU in a timely manner.”

All current, full and part-time students, whether undergraduate or graduate, are eligible to receive free tutoring and supplemental instruction services in convenient, easily accessible, online and face-to-face formats. Students can also receive supplemental instruction in historically difficult courses, Dr. Hong said.

Tutors are available for a variety of subjects including biology, chemistry, history, mathematics, reading content, research papers and others. Eligible students are also encouraged to apply to the TRiO Programs to receive individualized support services.

Academic advisors help students navigate their journey at TAMIU by designing a personalized, four-year graduation plan and transitioning them to the College or School based on their majors.

University College wants students to readily identify and take advantage of its free services as soon as they are admitted to TAMIU, Hong said.

“We encourage all TAMIU students to not wait and access our services as soon as possible so that they can get a clear roadmap of their college journey from the very beginning of their academic life and make sure they succeed,” she said.
